In October of 2003, the On Your Feet Foundation,
a not-for-profit organization in Illinois, organized and funded the first weekend retreat for birthmothers. These weekends were named "On Your Feet For Life." What began with twelve women, has grown to a community for hundreds of birthmothers across the United States, all sharing the common bond of having been part of this very special weekend event.
In 2010, Birthmother retreats were held
in Michigan City, Indiana, Sonoma, California and Seattle, Washington. Through these events, nearly one hundred birthmothers were able to connect, find support, and learn how to best nurture their adoption relationships.
Retreat Founders & Co-Leaders, Cher Pollock and Jennifer Pedley are both birthmothers as well as social workers.
